Biography

Dr Ian B. A. Menown

Dr Menown is a cath lab director at Craigavon Cardiac Centre, Northern Ireland and is current President of the Irish Atherosclerosis Society. He received his medical degree with distinction from the Queens, University Belfast,  where he trained in cardiology before completing an interventional fellowship at Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre, BC, Canada. He obtained a Postgraduate Doctorate of Medicine, the Purce medal and JD Williams prize for his research in improving early detection of acute coronary syndromes and has been elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr Menown is an active investigator in many large clinical trials including antithrombotic strategies following ACS/PCI such as ENTRUST-AF, LEADERS FREE and XIENCE28, and non-VKA anticoagulant trials such as RE-LY, ROCKET-AF, ARISTOTLE, AVERROES, and ENGAGE-AF. He has published over 100 papers on emerging anticoagulant/antiplatelet strategies, cardiovascular risk, early detection and prediction of outcome in acute coronary syndromes, management of dyslipidaemia and percutaneous coronary intervention. In addition, Dr Menown serves as editor or reviewer for numerous journals and is a member of several national guideline committees.
